It was being speculated that Microsoft would phase out the on-premise SharePoint Server in favour of SharePoint Online at some point but it seems that won't happen any time soon. According to Microsoft, many customers are yet to switch to cloud based services and giving a hybrid solution combining SharePoint Server and SharePoint Online to them makes sense for the company.Microsoft announces SharePoint Server 2016, coming later this year
The various Office 365 features that are coming to SharePoint Server 2016 include Search using Office Delve, Portals, Files, Team Sites, Power BI and Social integration with Yammer.
