InformationWeek posted a news story that Microsoft claims the underlying software in Tivo set-top boxes violates its patents and is looking to block sales of the devices in the U.S.

Microsoft on Monday filed a pair of actions against Tivo, claiming that software used by the maker of digital video recorders steps on its patents.

Microsoft filed complaints with the U.S. District Court in Seattle and the U.S. International Trade Commission. "We have a strong and robust patent portfolio that we will vigorously defend against infringement," said Kevin Kutz, Microsoft's director of public affairs, in a statement to the Reuters news agency.
