Microsoft says that by Friday it expects to have shipped out more than 3 million copies of its most crucial new product: the Windows 2000 operating system for businesses.

The company said Windows 2000 sales remain strong as computer makers ship PCs and servers, which run Internet sites and corporate networks, with the software installed. Yet analysts have said sales of Windows 2000 for servers, released in February, are slower than they expected.
