ASUS GTX 980 STRIX OC Review

Months after its launch the GTX 980 remains one of the most popular cards around, especially now that its inventory situation has largely cleared up. While there are now plenty of options out there at various price and performance points, ASUS’ GTX 980 STRIX OC is typically one of the first options gamers turn towards.

The reason for this dedication should be evident: despite including a raft of advanced features, the STRIX OC is one of the more “affordable” options right now. While many competing cards go for $590 and more, ASUS is focusing on attaining market share by hitting the $570 price point. Granted, that’s $20 more than a reference card goes for but in this case the premium gets you a lot more than a basic blower-style setup and baseline components.

COMPRO TN2200 Mini-Dome Cloud Network Camera Review

If there's one thing currently that security experts/analysts around the world all agree on that's the large increase of crime rates over the past 5 years and honestly i doubt this is really a surprise to most of you out there. Personally i may have yet to become a victim of something bad but my best friend had his store broken into twice inside 4 years, almost got mugged the other day while still in his car, another friend of mine got robbed while in his house and finally there have been numerous such reports around where i live. Because of that and also because many of you have asked us to focus on security related reviews of IP cameras and surveillance kits we're currently doing our best to bring as many such products here as possible. Today we'll be testing the latest Cloud Network Camera by COMPRO, the mini-dome TN2200.

COMPRO Technology Inc., based in Taipei, Taiwan, has been an innovative leader in the design and development of consumer and industrial imaging application since 1988. Through innovative, reliable products and services, motivated and talented staff, responsible approach to the business, and collaboration with business partners and customers, COMPRO Technology is bringing an exciting new digital lifestyle to make the world a better and safer place to live in imaginative new direction.

Although both the TN1600P model which we had with us a while ago (again by COMPRO) and the TN2200 share the same video output resolution of 1600x1200p, the same 1/3 2 Megapixel CMOS sensor and several other features (for example PoE support and cloud functionality) the end result is quite different since the first was designed primarily for outdoor use while the second was primarily designed for indoor use. Now both cameras feature water-proof and dust-proof IP66 certified housings (the housing of the TN2200 is also IK09 certified meaning it can withstand impact from a 5 Kg object dropped from 20 cm in height) so both are actually considered to be outdoor models but the lack of IR LEDs (night vision) in the case of the TN2200 complicates things (unless the area you want to monitor is lighted at night). Also as opposed to the TN1600P and its somewhat narrow horizontal viewing angle of 60 degrees which makes it suitable for large area surveillance the TN2200 has a ultra-wide viewing angle of 105 degrees so it's far more suitable for use in smaller areas such as an office or a store. Time to take a closer look and see exactly what the TN2200 Cloud Network Camera by COMPRO is all about.

Corsair Gaming H1500 USB Gaming Headset

Corsair recently rebranded many of their gaming peripherals to the new “Corsair Gaming” moniker. While a simple rename doesn’t mean much, the new branding was immediately followed by a wave of new devices from Corsair. These range from the new RGB equipped keyboards and mice to their new H-series headsets. Today we’ll be taking a look at the new H1500 headset, a USB gaming headset that promises virtual Dolby 7.1 audio and powerful 50mm drivers.

The H1500 has been designed with PC gaming in mind, it’s got everything you could need for home or competitive gaming. It features powerful drivers to help you get lost in your favourite digital environment, backed up with surround sound support for extra immersion. There’s also a high quality folding microphone for team chat and an in-line controller to help you keep the most important controls within easy reach. Of course, a desktop headset needs to be more versatile than just gaming, so I’ll be expecting good all-round audio performance from the new H1500 in movies, music and gaming alike.

As you can see from the specifications we’ve got a pair of 50mm 32 Ohm drivers, a three meter long cable, a standard USB connection and a unidirectional noise-cancelling microphone.

Microsoft Lumia 535 First Impressions

Nice, and affordable too. When Microsoft first announced the Lumia 535, I wasn't impressed: The firm was already flooding the market with low-end smart phones and I just didn't see the need for yet another one. But unlike the embarrassingly bad Lumia 530, which should be discontinued immediately, the Lumia 535 is clearly something special, and something that can sit confidently next to the Lumia 630/635 and Lumia 730/735 in Microsoft's lineup.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor review: tested with 21 GPUs

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, an RPG with various action elements set in the fantasy world of Lord of the Rings, was released in late September. The game's storyline takes place between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, so odds are you'll recognize many of the characters that appear in the game from the books or the movie. We tested the game using 21 contemporary GPUs to determine whether it is AMD or Nvidia boards that offer the best performance for this game.

SilverStone Strider Gold 1500W Power Supply Review

SilverStone is a well known name among computer hardware enthusiasts. It has a good record of building solid PSUs, some of those good, some of those great. Today it comes to us with 1500 watts of power in an extremely small footprint, sporting 100% fully modular cables, and claiming extremely good efficiency.

SilverStoneTek is a company best known for its high quality cases but its product lines extend into other components such as cooling, power, fans, storage, and so on. As a company, Silverstone has built up this impressive product repertoire in a very short time having been founded in 2003. Today, however, we are interested in its power supplies which are comprised of the Strider, SFX, Nightjar, Gemini, and Zeus model lines that range from 300W to 1500W DC output. For this review, we are looking at SilverStone’s largest capacity unit available at this time, the ST1500-GS, which is produced in conjunction with Enhance.

Enhance Electronics Co. Ltd. was founded over 20 years ago in 1986. While a major power supply OEM Enhance is not nearly as well known to most users as some other OEMs as its core business focus has been outside of the desktop market in areas such as servers, embedded, and telecom markets. However, its products have started to surface in the US consumer realm in the last year or so under the likes of SilverStone, Silverpower, Antec, Cooler Master, and Thermaltake, as well as the occasional Enhance branded model.

Synology DiskStation DS115j Review

The DS115j is an affordable NAS from Synology, aimed at home users and small office environments. It's a lot simpler than the larger, pricier units sold by the company, since it only supports a single 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch hard disk and comes with a relatively limited processor and memory. But that simplicity is all part of its appeal. Like the larger units, it comes with Synology's superb DiskStation Manager software, which provides a straightforward and intuitive Windows-like graphical interface for using the NAS.

Thermaltake Core V51 Mid-Tower PC Case Review

Established in 1999, Thermaltake has been in the computer case industry for years. Being a part time computer tech, I built plenty of rigs with their products. Following the launch of the Core V71 and Core V1, Thermaltake launched the Core V51, which happens to be the center of attention in today’s review.
