ADATA DashDrive Elite SE720 External SSD Review

How smart is your car? Can you play .mp3 or video off of a USB hard drive? I recently found out that mine can. It was not by choice but out of desperation. I thought I forgot my phone while on my way to work (later to find out it was in my bag) and was too far from home to turn back. Always having my laptop with me, I remembered that I had a USB hard drive in my briefcase. I pulled over and got it out, knowing that I had most of my favorite music on it. I was desperate, I had a song in my head and needed to hear it. With fingers crossed, I plugged it into my car's USB port, hit the auxiliary button and in about a minute my files were displayed on my multimedia screen. Bonus!

Well, how about that? A true Smart Car (pun intended) but what makes this story more ironic? The external USB 3.0 Drive I was using is manufactured by ADATA. By now you’re probably saying so what, ADATA makes it. OK, I’ll let you be the judge. The USB 3.0 external 128 GB SSD is named the ADATA DashDrive Elite SE720. Now do you get the irony? It’s a DashDrive, plug it into your car and place it on your dash then put the car in drive and pull away.

Errata prompts Intel to disable TSX in Haswell, early Broadwell CPUs

The TSX instructions built into Intel's Haswell CPU cores haven't become widely used by everyday software just yet, but they promise to make certain types of multithreaded applications run much faster than they can today. Some of the savviest software developers are likely building TSX-enabled software right about now.

Unfortunately, that work may have to come to a halt, thanks to a bug—or "errata," as Intel prefers to call them—in Haswell's TSX implementation that can cause critical software failures.

Iiyama ProLite B2888UHSU 4K Monitor Review

4K monitors have really come of age in recent months. After the initial crop of premium panels back in 2013, the market has seen a steady influx of sub-£500 solutions that are far more attractive to mainstream users. This charge has been led, primarily, by a 28in TN panel that has impressed to such an extent that many manufacturers are lining-up to employ the technology in a display of their own.

The sought-after panel has already been featured in the likes of AOC's U2868PQU, Samsung's U28D590 and the Philips Brilliance 288P6LJEB/00, and is now being interpreted by Iiyama with the ProLite B2888UHSU.

Phanteks Case Accessories Review

Phanteks has found itself in the enviable position of having some of the most highly regarded cases currently on the market. Their line-up of course begins with the Primo on top followed by the Luxe and bringing up the rear is the Pro. With these cases Phanteks has used a sort of modular design for certain parts. For example the SSD brackets; they all mount in the same way in all three cases. The difference being the type and quantity of brackets included, with the Pro you are limited to just one single drive bracket. This might be disappointing to you, but don’t worry, Phanteks has your back. Now available on most major computer component retailer sites is Phanteks full line of case accessories. Let’s take a brief look at what Phanteks has to offer.
