ASUS ROG Maximus VIII Hero Alpha Review

ASUS are a brand which never appear to stand still and cease to innovate. Not only does the brand’s diverse portfolio now stretch into that of premium gaming displays but their Republic of Gamers motherboards are commonly jam-packed with creative features for both gamer and enthusiast alike. Off the back of the great success of their Maximus VIII Hero, the ROG team are back with another release today in the form of Maximus VIII Hero Alpha.

Maximus VIII Hero Alpha looks identical to the standard Hero and an initial observation confirms the same theme has been implemented and a majority of the same features utilised. However, Alpha brings with it a number of significant improvements over its sibling with dual 32Gbps U.2 ports for NVMe storage, up to 3 PCI Express RAID devices, 802.11ac WiFi, RGB Strip headers and the Intel USB 3.1 controller.

Guide: Block Google DNS per device

Some apps, like Netflix, have recently started hard coding Google's DNS servers into them to combat the use of VPNs and Smart DNS services. Most of the guides I've seen have indicated that the best way to combat this is via "static routes to nowhere". While this is an approach, I don't think it's the best, or most reliable way to get it done. In my opinion IP filtering is a much better option.

Generally, I tend to consider myself up to date with technology, I mean I spend my days testing and writing about the latest and greatest. Every once in a while though something slips past me. A few years ago at CES Razer introduced their Nabu. It wasn’t really the first of its kind with Nike and Fitbit especially doing things that were similar, but it was very surprising to see Razer, a gaming company jump into the market. It wasn’t really until in the past year when I noticed just how popular Fitbit has been with even my own mom having one before me. Well my wife recently decided to get them to start working on bettering ourselves and Razer came back to mind. So today I’m going to take a look at the Razer Nabu and see what it’s all about.

Tronsmart Vega S95 Telos Android 4K Media Player Review

The Tronsmart Vega S95 Telos is performing as promised by the manufacturer, being able to playback 4K content without any issues at all and at the same time it is able to output at this resolution with a frequency of 60Hz. We do get plenty of possibilities to connect extra storage to it via the included USB 2.0 ports, the SATA Data/Power interface but also via LAN, Wi-Fi or even the SD Card reader. The 3D performance of the product is also quite decent so considering that we do actually have a fully-functional Android 5.1.1 mini-PC on our hands, we can install plenty of other applications on it via Play Store.
