Planet Hardware has posted a preview on Nvidia´s NV20.
Now, the more interesting aspects behind the NV20 will be with that of OverDraw and shading. Upcoming games will rely a great deal on T&L (Transform and Lighting), and with a programmable GPU the T&L configuration will be raised up to a whole new level. One aspect, which could speed up 3D rendering, or at least make more polygons, is that of hidden surface removal (HSR), which the NV20 should perform in hardware. With hardware elimination of hidden surfaces we will undoubtedly see an increase in rendering speed and capability along with the possibility of higher resolution for games without a digression from performance.Read more
