be quiet! Silent Base 600 Review

My experience with be quiet! has been with its air coolers, so I am familiar with be quiet!'s reputation for quality and innovation. Now be quiet! has branched out and offers a couple lines of cases. After reviewing this case, it is clear to me that be quiet!'s experience with component design and manufacturing is evident in the Silent Base 600. The style of the case is not too flashy or over-the-top like some gaming cases can be, but it would still be right at home as a gaming case. It would also be equally fine as a work station. The style gets your attention for all the right reasons.

Glorious Modular Mechanical Keyboard Review

If you’ve been following the PC Master Race subreddit, reddit.com/r/pcmasterrace, you’ll understand why the Glorious Modular Mechanical Keyboard is a significant piece of gear. It’s hard not to be a little satirical and cheeky when talking about PCMR, but the Glorious people managed to avoid all that and produced a keyboard. What a couple of the forum members did is start a company around the PCMR joke, you must ascend from the console peasantry, and did something serious. Are they serious?

The Glorious Modular Mechanical Keyboard, or GMMK, is something special. It was announced on Instagram and a few keyboard forums, which qualifies for quite possibly the most niche and underground announcement I’ve ever seen. After 10 months of development, the GMMK is released, again announced in forums, and available on Amazon, and as a groupbuy on Massdrop.

What’s this all about, then? Despite its PCMR connections, the GMMK really isn’t joking at all. It features a sleek, all black, floating key design, red SMD backlighting, and doubleshot, backlit compatible keycaps. It’s naked of any obvious branding, but does come with a PCMR sticker. This all seems just about average for the average mechanical keyboard. However, the real trick here is that the MX compatible switches are replaceable. By putting the switches in a socket, Glorious made the chore of replacing switches a trivial thing to do. It’s brilliant, if not glorious. It also removes the risk of buying a keyboard with switches you may not like

Logitech C922 Review

Twitch live streaming has taken the gaming industry by storm, and while YouTube may offer live streaming support, Twitch appears to have “come into its own” by offering something totally unique. Fundamental to any streamer is a trusty, reliable webcam which captures the reaction and interaction of the broadcaster. The Logitech C920 has been the go-to device for over four years, topping Amazon’s “Best Seller” category in the webcam department. But this could be about to change.

In a bid to dethrone the popular C920, Logitech are back with a successor named the C922. This new webcam may look decidedly similar to its predecessor; but looks can be deceiving. The C922 now carries 60fps via 720p, includes a handy mini tripod and bears the Personify background replacement feature.

Medion Akoya S3409 Ultrabook Review

Ultrabook doesn't have to mean exorbitant pricing. Remember when Intel proclaimed that ultrabooks were the next great thing. A $300m war chest, ostensibly for marketing, was earmarked to stave the threat from from Apple in the premium space. Five years on and the ultrabooks still have yet to get massive traction.

Now, however, a number of high-profile companies have released some alluring designs. The Dell XPS 13 looks lovely while the Razer Blade Stealth, released the other week, has a super-slim profile and a neat trick of attaching to an external graphics box for proper gaming thrills and spills.

For those that want all the basic ingredients of what makes an ultrabook attractive in our eyes - slim profile, low weight, all-day battery life - but don't want to pay through the nose, there are a number of options for late 2016, all bolstered by the latest Intel platform technology known as Kaby Lake.

MSI Core Frozr L CPU Cooler Review: Frozr Goes Vertical

MSI’s Core Frozr L may be the motherboard company’s first CPU cooler product released but this is not in any way an amateur attempt. Frozr coolers have been used on MSI’s graphics cards for almost a decade now, with their Twin Frozr thermal design currently in its sixth generation used on the latest NVIDIA 10-series graphics cards.

Mushkin Triactor 480GB SSD Review

Despite how fast SSDs are and how cheap they have become they are one of the only storage methods that come with a notable shelf life. That isn’t to say that rotational drives are perfect either however, they tend to either outlive their usefulness or suffer from a mechanical failure before the platters wear out. SSDs on the other hand suffer from NAND wear that slowly over time will cause the drive to become slower until it fails.

This process happens at a rate which is predictable and largely dependent on which type of NAND is being produced. MLC and TLC NAND is what you will find in consumer SSDs and tend to have faster wear rates than higher quality chips like the SLC NAND found in enterprise drives. MLC and TLC NAND are also slower than SLC leading to the extreme cost difference between the different drive types.

While SSDs offer a variety of benefits the cost of the drive is what “most” people care about and is why you will find a bunch of TLC enabled drives at the lower end of the cost spectrum.

Nvidia 375.86 driver issues

The last couple of weeks have not been good to Nvidia. The company released a new driver with the version 375.57 in late October that caused major issues especially on Windows 10 devices. This issue got patched relatively quickly though.

It appears that Nvidia's latest driver, version 375.86 is also causing issues for users who have updated it on their systems since release.

ZOTAC GeForce GTX 1060 Mini 3 GB

With only $195, the Zotac GTX 1060 Mini 3 GB is one of the cheapest GTX 1060s around. Yet it still packs enough performance for 1080p gaming, even though it lacks the bells and whistles we've seen on other more expensive products. Only the cooler could be a bit better for lower temperatures and fan-noise.
