OC Workbench send some new about P4 chipsets from Non-Intel chipset makers:

According to Intel Roadmap, Intel would have completed it´s transition from p3 to p4. News from manufacturers like ASUS, GIGABYTE and ABIT indicates that the R&D of the P4 chipsets by Taiwanese counterpart are too slow to fulfill the large requirements. It looks like the Taiwanese chipset makers will make in roads only in 2002.

Intel announced that by the end of 2001, 1/3 of total output volumes will be P4 processors. They predict that total P4 processors production will be 33 million and above. Mainboard manufacturers current production levels for P3 boards will be sufficient to meet market demands till the mid of year 2002.

Currently, first and second line manufacturers have received their Socket 478, 845 chipsets. They will probably officially announce it in Q3. On the other hand, VIA, SiS, ALi have not sent their samples to the manufacturers.

Mainboard manufacturers said that Intel is licensing the P4 technology to SiS and ALi except for the Data Book. This will somewhat slow down their R&D in delivering a P4 chipset in time with Intel.

According to roadmaps, VIA is predictd to deliver samples of P4X266 to manufacturers. SiS 645 and 650 samples will also be delivered in between August and October to manufacturers. ALi also has plans to deliver it around that time.

It looks like P4 mainboards based on Taiwanese chipsets VIA, SiS or ALi will only appear as early as Q1 2002.
