PortsLock 1.2 has been released:
SmartLine, Inc. would like to announce a unique security solution on the market that enables Systems Administrators to set permissions on the TCP/IP connections exactly as they can for files and folders on NTFS partitions. PortsLock protects corporate networks against attacks from the inside.
PortsLock is a firewall with user-level access controls for Windows NT/2000/XP. Once PortsLock is installed, administrators can assign permissions to TCP/IP connections, just as they would in managing permissions on an NTFS partition of a hard disk. It lets you control which users can access what TCP/IP based protocols (HTTP, FTP, SMTP, POP3, Telnet, etc.) on a local computer, depending on the time of day and day of the week. You can also set allowed/denied TCP/UDP ports and IP addresses for incoming and outgoing connections. PortsLock is absolutely transparent to users.
Users do not have to set up rules in their applications to use the network. Only administrators are allowed to set rules so users without administrative privileges cannot bypass the PortsLock security.
What's New in PortsLock 1.2 (versus 1.1):
- Now you can choose between two types of the monitoring output - Advanced and Simplified. If you wish to monitor only main network events (such as SEND, RECEIVE, etc.), uncheck the Advanced Output item from the Monitoring menu.
- Monitoring works properly for the Windows 2003 Server RC2 computer.
- Fixed bug in the File menu. Add/Edit/Delete items of this menu didn't work in the previous versions.
- Minor bug in the "Expand Users Tree" function is fixed.
