AOC PDS241 24in Monitor Review – Porsche Design

The Porsche brand is synonymous with performance, but also with a certain flavour of functional, reliable, no-nonsense design. This ethos has been exported beyond the automotive industry via the Studio F. A. Porsche subsidiary to everything from watches, phones, pianos, and even handbags. Latest to benefit from the particular Studio F. A. Porsche treatment is AOC, with a new range of screens recently launched in Leipzig (http://www.kitguru.net/peripherals/monitors/andrzej/aoc-launches-range-of-porsche-screens/) . First to arrive on our test bench, in a world exclusive appearance, is the 24in PDS241.

ASRock X370 Taichi Motherboard Review

Continuing our examination of high-end X370 motherboards for AMD’s new AM4 platform, ASRock’s £230 X370 Taichi is put under the microscope. Acting as the second-rung product in ASRock’s current X370 line-up, the Taichi uses a slightly different approach to supplied features in comparison to competing board vendors.

Asus ROG GR8 II Mini Gaming PC Review

The Asus ROG GR8 II is designed for those who want a compact gaming system for a desk or living room, but would rather something more powerful than an Xbox One or PS4. This system is similar in size to current-generation consoles, however its use of high-end Intel Kaby Lake processors and Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 graphics leads to a much faster experience.

Galax HOF PCI-E 1TB SSD Review

Galax, formally Galaxy Technology and KFA2, began teasing us with PCI Express SSDs in 2015 when it first displayed a JMicron design at Computex. Since then, the company released numerous designs in both NVMe and SATA flavors. The Hall Of Fame models come with a white exterior and printed circuit board, along with an over-the-top cooling solution that looks amazing. Now that the company is shipping units, we found it has another nice feature to go with its outstanding looks.

The Galax HOF PCI-E is the first (and only) Phison PS5007-E7 based product to ship with a 1TB capacity point. Galax made the capacity options simple; this product only ships in 1TB. Easy enough, right?

The drive doesn't stop there, though. The Phison E7 SSD controller ships with data path protection and other schemes to increase data integrity. We've examined several Phison add-in card reference designs, including the Double-DDR and the All-SLC, and none came equipped with the surface mount components that enable power failure protection. The HOF PCI-E includes a capacitor to ensure the SSD flushes data to NAND even when your system suffers a sudden power loss event. The HOF is the first consumer E7 that ships with host power failure protection, which is a feature we only expect to see on enterprise-focused products designed for the data center.
The Galax HOF PCI-E 1TB SSD is the most advanced iteration of the Phison E7 design we've seen, to put it mildly, and we can say that before we even open the box. Once inside, the hits keep on coming. The drive features a full-size heat sink that absorbs heat from the E7 controller, which can withstand up to 90C before throttling. Absorbing heat is different than releasing it, which is an important piece of the puzzle that we will examine during our tests.

Primochill Praxis Wetbench

Typically when it comes to open air cases you have crazy one-off builds that are really only useful for tradeshows and then you have testbenches. The testbenches are normally plain looking and lack much more than the ability to add a fan or the bare minimum components needed for a testbench. A few years ago Primochill introduced their Wetbench line and they have revised it to the current iteration with huge changes in the design. I’ve been following it for a while but its allure finally got me after seeing it all over the internet on tech YouTube channels and websites so I reached out and surprisingly they were happy to send over a nice orange and white Wetbench for us to check out. If you follow us on Facebook or Twitter or my personal Instagram you have most likely seen the Wetbench in action recently. Well, it's about time to sat down and spoke a little about the overall experience.

Radeon RX Vega barely beats GTX 1070 in leaked results

Things aren't looking good for AMD with all of these lukewarm rumors on Radeon RX Vega, with the latest purported results of the HBM2-based graphics card barely edging out NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 1070 in 3DMark TimeSpy.

AMD's upcoming Radeon RX Vega seems to have its GPU clocked at 1GHz base, and 1.2GHz boost - at least in reference form. There's 8GB of HBM2 with 512GB/sec of memory bandwidth, and a TDP of 225W. If these results are true, Vega isn't exactly a GTX 1080 killer, let alone a GTX 1080 Ti killer. But then remember that AMD could be under delivering with performance right now, and things will change with tuned drivers and final hardware. Now... this is where things could get interesting: AMD has multiple Vega graphics cards in the pipeline - so this iteration of RX Vega might be the GTX 1070 competitor, while we might see another RX Vega that competes wiht the GTX 1080, and a monster that hopefully dethrones the GTX 1080 Ti. I'm sure we're going to see a fully unleashed Vega graphics card with the 4096-bit memory bus, and its HBM2 memory hitting 1TB/sec - but at what cost?

Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 580 8GB Graphics Card Review

Sapphire is one of the biggest names out there when it comes to creating great AMD graphics cards. While we've already taken a look at their lovely Nitro+ RX 570, and a few other RX 580's, which have so far been impressive in terms of value for money for 1080p gaming, even at ultra settings. However, the new Pulse series from Sapphire promise performance close to that of their more expensive Nitro+ cards, but a more attractive price for those who may be on a slightly tighter budget.
