Thank you for contacting Sierra On-Line Technical Support

Sierra products which do not have "Windows 2000" printed on the Systems Requirement Label as a recommended operating system were not designed or tested for Windows 2000. In the current stage, Sierra can not offer any support for our existing games, which are not designed to work with Windows 2K.

Many Sierra programs have not yet been fully tested using Windows 2000 and programs previously compatible with Windows NT will be tested. Until then, Sierra Technical Support does not have information concerning troubleshooting steps for Windows 2000 that may lead to a solution to the described problem.

For the game that originally not designed to run Win NT, they will most probably not run on Win2K either since Win2k is based on NT technology, not 95/98.

For the game that designed to work with NT, there is small barrier on Win2K on the resource access approaches. Those games will need to be patched to make sure they are compatible with the new Win2k system. We are evaluating the possibilities of Win2k patches for those games. Before any official announcement, Tech support can not provide any support for those names to run on Win2k.

Please note that even Microsoft has declared that Win2k is not for game and it is not 100% compatible with any Window95/98 application. But we are working closing with Microsoft to try to let our games working on Win2K. It requires Microsoft´s cooperation on this matter.

We do not have any guarantee if this stage for any of our games to work on Win2K, however we do have a few suggestions for you to try:

1. Search on hardware manufacturer´s website to find Win2K driver for your sound/video cards and any other devices. Usually gaming problems with Windows 2000 lie in the lack of driver software compatibility for the sound and video cards. There are few sound and video cards which have DirectX certified compatible drivers for Windows 2000. Once sound and video card manufacturers support their hardware with Windows 2000 compliant drivers, Windows 2000 will be able to support programs that utilize higher versions of DirectX.

Please refer to the website below to check if there are DirectX certified drivers for the sound and video cards in Windows 2000.

http://www.microsoft.com/hcl/default.asp (choose AUDIO or DISPLAY or from the "In the following types box" to check compatibility of the sound or video card respectively).

2. Many of the problems experienced with our programs running on Windows NT have been exhibited in Windows 2000 as well. Set the file system to Fat32 instead NTFS5. Since NTFS is not very compatible with games.

3. The best way will be setting up dual boot system so you can still boot into Windows 95/98 after installing Win2k.

Good Luck!

Sincerely,

Arnold
