The solid state drive (SSD) is a new and relatively niche storage medium, but one that is slowly but steadily eating away at the universality of the hard disk drive. After all, solid state drives offer some big advantages over hard disk drives - extremely fast random accesses, absolutely silent operation, ability to withstand tremendous amounts of shock, vibration and atmospheric pressure (or the lack thereof).

This comparison guide will compare the performance of all the solid state drives we can get our hands on. This would be similar to our *Hard Disk Drive Performance Comparison Guide*. It may start off small, but we intend to keep adding new solid state drives and even new benchmarks as we go along.

In this update, we added the *OCZ Agility 2 (E) 60 GB solid state drive*, and the *Kingston SSDNow V 30 GB solid state drive*.

Every so often, products are announced that cause a little bit of a stir, forums chatter, blogs report and sites speculates, but then things go quiet until the release day and then all hell breaks loose. We have a feeling that today's review subject will be one such product. We have been lucky enough to bag one of the most anticipated boards of 2010, ladies and gentlemen, we give you the Asus Rampage III Formula!

The RIIIF as we'll call it from here on in, sits second from the top of of Asus's range of enthusiast gaming/overclocking X58 based motherboards, just below the Rampage III Extreme and just above the Rampage III Gene (albeit a different form factor). It is fully laden with features, all of which we'll cover later in the review, including some rather nice overclocking tools, advanced power circuitry and a comprehensive BIOS.

At the time of writing this, there were no definite UK prices available, but Asus guess at around the £250~£270 mark. As soon as we know more, we will let you know.
