It’s important to note the distinction between spam and bulk mail. I get emails on a monthly or semi-monthly basis from websites such as Buy, Amazon, or Computers4Sure. I don’t mind them. These are major companies, all of which I’ve shopped at before, and all of which have clearly stated privacy policies and removal options. Since I’ve done a lot of shopping at Amazon, for instance, I don’t mind knowing when a book comes out the company thinks I might be interested in. This type of marketing isn’t spam—and the very reason that it ISN’T spam is why most of the pro-spam legal arguments fall flat on their face.
