shipped over a year ago with built-in support for storing and retrieving XML data. To stay current with evolving W3C standards, Microsoft began releasing XML feature packs to the Web. Web Release 1 of SQLXML added Updategrams and XML Bulk Load. SQLXML 2.0 added support for XSD mapping schemas, a SQLXML OLEDB provider, Client-Side XML, and more.
SQLXML 3.0 introduces Web Services to SQL Server 2000. With SQLXML 3.0, Stored Procedures and XML Templates can be exposed as a Web Service.
