ASUS ROG Strix RTX SCAR II GL704GW Review

A stunning 144Hz IPS display matched to an RTX 2070 and Core i7. ASUS tailors it to FPS gamers with a number of tweaks including a low response time (3ms) and high refresh rate display (144Hz), a “WASD” illuminated keyboard, ROG Gladius II mouse and capable gaming hardware, including an ample-sized NVMe SSD for loading games quicker. In practice, the alignment to FPS gamers is more of a marketing spin as the tweaks that make it good for “FPS gamers” make it good for all gamers.

The design is noticeably improved over the first generation ASUS ROG STRIX SCAR that KitGuru tested which had a much chunkier display bezel, no keyboard backlighting and an inferior 120Hz 5ms display. Hardware specification improves too, but with the improved hardware comes an increased cost. Nonetheless, consumers looking for a high-performance and well thought-out gaming laptop will inevitably consider the ROG STRIX RTX SCAR II at some point – so let’s check out how it performs.

Gigabyte RTX 2060 Gaming OC Graphics Card Review

The new RTX graphics cards have been with us for a little while now. Which has given us time to test out a fair few cards from Gigabyte. From the mighty Gigabyte Aorus RTX 2080 Ti Xtreme, one of the most affordable RTX 2080’s, or the properly fantastic GTX 1660 that launched this week for about £200. It seems then, Gigabyte has something for everyone and every budget.

If you’re looking to get into some RTX action though, the entry point for that is the RTX 2060 series. At just £369.99, the Gaming OC Pro from Gigabyte is one of the most affordable RTX cards around. However, looking at the specifications, it’s hard to work out why. It’s heavily overclocked, has a triple-fan cooler, backplate, RGB, and more. So, let’s jump in for a closer look and see what else it has to offer!

iStorage Disk Ashur Pro2 SSD Review

The Disk Ashur Pro2 SSD model, with 1TB of storage in our review sample, offers read and write speeds way in excess of its HDD brother, quoting up to 294MB/s and 319MB/s in read and write, respectively. Also, due to the additional robustness of solid state storage, drop protection should be improved somewhat.

Serious Statistics: The Aliasing Adventure

As PC gamers we are (usually) blessed with a number of options in the games we play, for tweaking performance and visual quality. Textures, lighting and shadows, tessellation and more can all be under our control, and each has its impact on our experience. One setting present in many if not all modern PC games that can dramatically impact performance and quality is anti-aliasing and, to be honest, I never really understood how it works. Sure we have the general idea that super-sampling is in effect running at a higher resolution and then downscaling, but then what is multi-sampling? How do post-processing methods work, like the very common FXAA and often favored SMAA?

The GTX 1660 41 game OC Shootout vs. the RX 590

The EVGA GTX 1660 XC Overclock Showdown vs. the Red Devil RX 590 using 41 games This overclocking showdown is the follow-up to BTRs launch review of the EVGA GTX 1660 XC versus the PowerColor Red Devil RX 590.

This overclocking showdown is the follow-up to BTR’s launch review of the EVGA GTX 1660 XC versus the PowerColor Red Devil RX 590. Today we have optimized and maxed-out both individual overclocks with all performance options set to their highest limits to get the most performance from each card. In the USA market both cards are in a similar price range. The EVGA GTX 1660 is priced at $239 with a $10 mail-in-rebate and a 1-game bundle while the Red Devil RX 590 is priced at $239 with a 3-game bundle and a $20 mail-in-rebate.

At stock, the GTX 1660 won nearly all of the 41 games we tested over the Red Devil RX 590. This time, we will overclock our cards manually each as far as they will go to see where they stand in relation to each other overclocked and to see if anything changes. We also updated to the very latest drivers and have added Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 to our benchmarks.
