Devices like the one we're reviewing here today have come a long way in the last couple of years. According to what I've been able to dig up so far, it was sometime around 1999 when somebody came up with the idea making a device that would provide you with an easy way to control the speed of your case fans. Most of the early controllers, were internal "black box" type devices that would decrease the amount of voltage being fed to a fan, thus reducing its speed. A few months later, things had advanced to the point where rheostats were being used, so that a person could have direct control over the speed of their fans simply by turning a dial. Fast forwarding to 2003, there are currently dozens of manufacturers mass-producing fan controllers, temperature monitoring devices, and system information display units, in nearly every possible configuration you can imagine.Read more
