Microsoft has released an update for Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012 to address the following 8 issues:
Update for Windows 8 (KB2771431)
Update for Windows Server 2012 (KB2771431)
This article describes a servicing stack update that is available for Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012. After the update is installed, the following issues are resolved.Update for Windows 8 for x64-based Systems (KB2771431)
Issue 1
A Windows 8-based or Windows Server 2012-based computer experiences high CPU usage when it runs a Windows Update applicability scan. Additionally, the applicability scan takes longer than expected.
Issue 2
Duplicate CBS entries are logged in the CBS log file when the Windows 8-based or Windows Server 2012-based computer runs an automatic Windows Update applicability scan.
Note The path of the CBS log file is C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log.
Issue 3
Consider the following scenario:
You start Windows Internet Explorer on a Windows 8-based or Windows Server 2012-based computer.
You install the Microsoft update for Adobe Flash Player in Internet Explorer (update 2755399).
You perform either of the following operations:
You install an update that contains drivers.
You install an update that does not contain drivers, and then install an update that contains drivers.
You install another update, and then you restart the computer.
In this scenario, the updates are not installed. Additionally, you receive the following error message:
0x80004004 (E_ABORT)
Issue 4
When you install all the latest driver updates on a computer that is running Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012, certain system drivers (for example, Acpi.sys) in the following location are not updated:
systemdrive:\Windows\System32\drivers\
Note To check the driver version, right-click the driver file, click Properties, and then click the Details tab.
Issue 5
Assume that you try to install a servicing update on a computer that is running Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012. If the servicing update contains a driver update (especially an audio driver update), the servicing operation fails, and you cannot install the servicing update.
Issue 6
Assume that an update cannot be installed because of an installer failure on a computer that is running Windows 8 or Windows Server 2012. The other updates that are installed together with this update also cannot be installed. Additionally, you receive a "CBS_E_SOURCE_MISSING" error message if you try to reinstall the other updates.
Issue 7
Assume that you try to install the Application Server role together with Microsoft SharePoint or an independent software vendor customer application on a Windows Server 2012-based computer. In the case of certain timing conditions, the installation operation fails, rolls back, and restarts in an infinite loop.
Note The Application Server role is installed by using the Add Server Role wizard or the Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM) tool.
Issue 8
When update servicing for a feature (for example the .NET Framework 3.5) has already been installed on the computer, the feature cannot be enabled.
Note By default, the .NET Framework 3.5 is enabled in Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012.
