SystemCooling checked out the Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10,000RPM HDD



The 74GB Raptor was probably the first item that I continuously worked with and tested for about 3 months. I did this because of complaints that I started hearing about the first generation 34GB Raptor. Having constant contact with many computer enthusiasts who like to use the latest technology I began hearing of higher then average HDD failures among those using the first generation Raptor drives in a RAID 0 configuration. Even our very own Howard AKA “pijo” experienced one such failure with his dual Raptors after a two month period of use. And although Western Digital offers a generous warranty of 5 years, dealing with a HDD failure is never fun.
