VIA Hardware has put up a feature on the Cyrix III and the story behind the processor. Here a snip:
People in the computer hardware community pretty much knew the final specifications of the Cyrix III and the general performance people could expect thanks to "previews" from TomsHardware and Firingsquad. Even our VIA Interview, dated May 26, with Richard Brown listed some of the specifications of the upcoming Cyrix III processor. The Cyrix III was slated to be based on the Joshua core. The Joshua core contained 64k L1 cache, 256k full-speed L2 cache, .18 processing, 133 MHz Front Side Bus, and 3DNow support. The Joshua based Cyrix III´s would also use the not favored PR MHz rating system. Then on June 6 at Computex 2000, just 12 days after our interview, VIA released the Cyrix III, but not on the Joshua core.Read more
