During the first beta cycle for Microsoft´s forthcoming version of Windows, codenamed "Whistler," some disturbing feature omissions came to light. Previous versions of Windows -- specifically, Windows NT and Windows 2000 -- allowed the user to create a set of boot disks (three disks in NT and four in Win2K) that could be used to install the operating system on an empty or damaged system. Beta 1 of Whistler no longer had that option.
