Saw over ActiveWin that Microsoft has released the first preview version of Whistler:

Thanks for all the e-mail notifying us that Microsoft has released the first preview version of Whistler, the next version of the Windows operating system. As expected it shows off very little new features, but then again it is basically Windows 5.1. Some of the bits and pieces we have got together from the e-mails goes like this.

The release notes included with Whistler build 2250 state that Microsoft is going to be dropping AppleTalk, NetBEUI and DLC legacy networking protocol support from the OS. While adding IPv6 networking support along with user-selectable "Visual Styles."
