There’ve been a few forays into this realm, with the most recent (and high profile) being Final Fantasy, but even the stunning visuals in that movie pale in comparison to what a desktop level PC may be capable of reproducing in just a few years. This type of advancement could allow for a far smaller number of PC’s to render advanced digital images, and leave a greater amount of money for hiring actors, screenwriters, and editors—all of which Final Fantasy definitely could’ve used a few more of. As computers become more advanced and modeling programs simpler to use, moreover, digital film-making could become more of a desktop-level possibility—while it might never be a mainstream application, the idea of an ordinary PC being able to churn out high-quality digital animation with relative ease is extremely attractive to anyone with even a casual interest in the idea of creating his own fan fiction, movie, or storyline.
