AMD FNATIC eSports SFF Gaming PC Hands On

PC enthusiasts and hardcore gamers are passionate about their hardware. We all lust after expensive, high-performance CPUs, GPUs, monstrous RAM kits, and ultra-fast solid state storage devices. But for many of us, top of the line PC components may be overkill, and in some situations, a more mainstream rig will do just fine.

That’s the crux of the message AMD has been trying to get across for quite some time with its mainstream APU line-up. Sure, you could build a high-performance rig with a top of the line processor and beefy discrete GPU, but why spend the money if you don’t have to? AMD Wraith Cooler Performance on FX-6350 Black Edition CPU

Last month I had the opportunity to check out the repackaged AMD FX 8350 processor that came bundled with the chipmaker's new "Wraith" heatsink cooling solution, and today I will be taking another look the ​Wraith's performance with the FX-6350 Vishera 6-core 3.9 GHz (4.2 GHz Turbo) processor that directly competes with the Intel Core i3 CPU.

As shown in the second slide below, the FX 6350 processor provides 1.5 times the multithreading capacity over the Intel Core i3 and over thrice the total cache. AMD's FX-8370, 8350, and 6350 processors are now available packaged with AMD's "Wraith" cooler to provide an out-of-the-box enthusiast level cooling solution.

The third slide meanwhile demonstrates the expected gaming performance increases that Microsoft DirectX 12 API offers over DirectX 11 when the FX 6350 processor is paired with an AMD R9 390X graphics card, delivering more data at a faster rate to get work done quicker through the use of multicore processors. Rendering is completed in less time and latency is reduced thus giving you more frames per second, a definite advantage with multiplayer gaming and a great help for those work graphic presentations so popular these days.

Seagate NAS HDD ST8000VN0002 8TB Hard Drive Review

While I was sitting in the living room of my relatives' house in Toronto watching the Raptors game last month, I received a Facebook message from a friend. "What is the philosophy of design?" she asked. "I need to write an essay about it." Being in engineering and all, how to approach an essay question -- especially on an arts topic -- could not have been more different than my field of expertise. I had a pretty good chuckle, but being a helpful person and all, I decided to give her a hand anyway, with a little bit of assistance from a modern day invention called Google. Eventually, I think I gave her a good enough answer. While I may not be the best person to talk to about the topic itself, I think I possess a skill essential to obtaining a solution: Finding and discerning the best available resources, especially since I do research during the day. Sometimes, the best thing to achieve something may not be through obvious means. Instead, it could be via someone or something else with an auxiliary property that best qualifies it for the job. In the same way, I am a big fan of hard drives designed specifically for NAS usage. In my desktop computer at work, I have a pair of Western Digital Red HDDs running in RAID 1. Why did not I just buy a pair of desktop drives instead, considering there are products made specifically for this purpose? Well, since I am using them for storage only (My boot disk is a pair of SanDisk Ultra II SSDs, also in RAID 1), NAS drives are actually better in my desktop than actual desktop drives in my opinion. They are better designed for reliability, more suitable for RAID, and optimized for power efficiency. Oh, and of course, they are great for use in your NAS, too. Today, we will take a look at yet another NAS drive, the Seagate NAS HDD ST8000VN0002 8TB. This 7,200RPM monster is not only big on speed, but also in capacity for all your storage applications. SilverStone Redline RL05 Case Review

Building a computer can be a complicated process of picking and assembling parts and while it may seem complicated it honestly is easier than it looks. The real challenge isn’t putting the parts together but rather picking the right parts and still remaining within your budget. In my reviews I rarely consider cost or budgets as that should never be a deciding factor but there are times when a $300USD chassis is just too much.

In this review I’ll be looking at a new case from SilverStone called the RL05. This case is part of the Redline Series and designed to be a competitively priced chassis for the mainstream enthusaist market and includes many features you wouldn’t normally see in that segment.

Windows 10 vs. Ubuntu 16.04 Gaming With NVIDIA's GTX 1070 & GTX 1080

For your viewing pleasure this Friday is our largest Windows vs. Linux graphics/gaming performance comparison ever conducted at Phoronix in the past 12 years! With the brand new NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 and GTX 1080 graphics cards, their performance was compared under Windows 10 Pro x64 and Ubuntu 16.04 x86_64 when using the very latest NVIDIA Corp drivers for each OS.
