WinInfo report that Windows XP testers receive this week a new theme tool from Stardock.
When it became apparent that Microsoft was integrating UI theming capabilities into Windows XP--the ability to modify all aspects of the user interface easily--users expected the company to release some sort of theme toolkit so that they could make their own UI themes, or "skins." But in private conversations with Microsoft last year, I discovered that the company had no plans for that. Microsoft was concerned that wildly divergent user interfaces would make Windows XP harder to support, so it decided to hold off on any such tool, at least through the RTM release of the OS. Microsoft engineers I spoke with explained that someone would eventually figure out how to create custom themes for Windows XP.Read more
