Elite Bastards takes a look at XFX's variant of the system memory sharing GeForce 6200 TurboCache board.

The GeForce 6200 TurboCache is based around another variant of NVIDIA's NV40 architecture, codenamed NV44. As far as the pipeline configuration goes, it's closest sibling is the mid-range NV43 core which powers GeForce 6600 and 6600GT boards, but there are also some other factors that distinguish this part from the rest of the line-up. Considering the budget nature of the 6200, you won't be surprised to hear that these changes relate to the removal of features available in the rest of the NV4x line. The most significant of these to go from an image quality perspective is the loss of floating point blending and filtering abilities, which are frequently used to facilitate High Dynamic Range effects (In titles such as Far Cry and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory). Although this may sound like a major loss for NV44, when you consider the performance impact of floating point blending on even high-end boards, its exclusion makes perfect sense.
