AMD EPYC vs. Intel Xeon Cascadelake With Facebooks RocksDB Database

Following the benchmarks earlier this month looking at PostgreSQL 12.0 on AMD EPYC Rome versus Intel Xeon Cascade Lake there was interest from Phoronix readers in wondering how well Rome is doing for other modern enterprise database workloads. One of those workloads that was recently added to the Phoronix Test Suite / OpenBenchmarking.org is Facebook's RocksDB, the company's embedded database that is forked from Google LevelDB. With RocksDB being designed to exploit many CPU cores and modern SSD storage, here are some benchmarks looking at how the Xeon Platinum 8280 stacks up against various new AMD EPYC 7002 series processors.

Office chairs, whether they be for a home office or a corporate work space, are a personal thing for any self-respecting desk jockey. For most folks, it's all about ergonomics and comfort rather than style points, though certainly industrial design aesthetics shouldn't have to be compromised. Autonomous has made a concerted effort to try and strike this delicate balance with its new Kinn Chair. Known more so for its family of adjustable, intelligent sit-stand desks, Autonomous also makes a line of related "smart office" equipment. And though the Kinn Chair isn't motorized with memory presets like the Automous SmartDesk 2 (nor would it need to be), the Kinn Chair does have a way of adapting itself to your personal frame with an array of springs in the seat and a spine of sorts in its back...

be quiet! Shadow Wings 2 Fan Review

be quiet! is making these fans in several different models and I have received several of them as well. However, there are some common features that can be lined up. Funny enough, it is actually the PWM fans in the series that make the most noise, but you can't say 'noise' in that sense. Because that's not what I would define the whispering noise they make. Also note that there is a full 3-year warranty on these fans and they are guaranteed a lifetime of 80,000 hours, which is 9 years of nonstop running. The fans are not intended for coolers or radiators, as they cannot deliver a static pressure that is high enough, they are for casing and airflow only.

SilentiumPC Navis EVO ARGB 240 AIO Liquid CPU Cooler Review

XFX RX 5700 XT THICC II Ultra Review

Continuing with my coverage of the aftermarket AMD RX 5700 models, the first RX 5700 XT that came in was from XFX. They sent over their top of the line model, the RX 5700 THICC II Ultra. Now the THICC branding kind of goes along with the Fatboy branding that I made fun of at the RX590 launch and adding Ultra in as well for the name does make the cards name a little crazy, silly, and long. But none of those things have anything to do with performance. Beyond maybe being a little embarrassed when you tell everyone your new video card is THICC, the name isn’t even in the top 5 things to worry about with your video card purchase. So today I’m going to focus on the card itself, how it performs, and I want to take a look at the new cooler design. Is the new look XFX going back to some of their great past designs or is it sticking with the flashy fake carbon fiber type theme they have been doing recently?
